5 Steps to Send Better Visually Appealing Emails that Convert

Author: Taha Malik

Emails are a super important tool to keep yourself relevant in the minds of your customers and to drive more conversions.

As one of the most powerful marketing tools at your disposal, your emails need to be beautifully designed in order to bring in as many people as possible. In fact, well-designed, visually appealing emails have been known to bring in 150% more click-throughs!

So, how do you begin designing awesome emails that convert? All you have to do is follow these 5 steps and you’re good to go!

Step 1 – Think “mobile”

As of 2019, more people in the world own a smartphone than a laptop or desktop computer and we all know that people love spending time on their phones. This is why it makes sense to begin with a ‘smartphone first’ approach when designing your email.

Most email design platforms and tools now come with smartphone optimized templates, so it’s a good idea to go with those. Even if you’re not using a third party service, remember, phone screens are relatively smaller and your layout should fit naturally.

Step 2 – Add a big, bold heading

Keeping with our ‘smartphone first’ approach, a big, bold header is more than important. Make sure that the font is eye-catching and that the header sits at the very top of your email.

Remember, when writing your headers short and sweet does the trick. It should be catchy and engaging in order to capture the viewers’ attention. Never use a vague, or long header in your emails.

Step 3 – Keep text to a minimum

The average internet audience today has an even shorter attention span than ever. With people getting more and more email on a daily basis, nobody wants to spend their precious time reading through paragraph after paragraph.

Align your text strategically and make sure you only say what’s important. Leave the rest for your website or landing page!

Step 4 – Color, color, color

It is vital to make your email pop by giving it a splash of colour. You have to be careful though, too little and it will look drab and boring and too much will make it look absolutely garish.

The ideal way to go about this is to pick 2 or 3 colors, max. If these match your logos and company color scheme, great! But you can also use seasonal or thematic colors if you’re running promotions.

Step 5 – Use high-quality images

Lastly, visuals. Now this might seem obvious but a lot of marketers often make the mistake of keeping their visuals as second priority. Not only does this show in the final result, it also dilutes the attention of your audience.

Captivate and stun your recipients by including powerful, high quality images that add depth to your message. However, be careful not to overdo it by adding too many or too large pictures. Keep the mix between text and image just right!

That’s all for today!

If you follow these 5 steps to the letter, you’ll be creating stunning, visually appealing emails that are bound to convert in no time!
