The First Step is Always The Hardest
Hope everyone is doing well. Welcome to the next round of the Sunan Weekly Roundup!
What we are working on:
This week we released three amazing blog posts that I wanted to share with you, the Sunan community.
First, “Avoid These Graphic Design Mistakes at All Cost!” As designers and marketers, it’s very easy to fall into these design traps especially when under stressful time constraints. That’s why at Sunan, we encourage our team to block off creative research time where we can come up with creative and unique perspectives when it comes to designing, even before we open Photoshop! Be sure to check out step #3!
Our second blog release is titled “The Power of Custom Packaging.” In 2020, according to the New York Times, it’s estimated that over 3 billion packages went through the nation’s shipping infrastructure, which is roughly 800 million more than last year! When it comes to branding, why just stop at our product? By even branding the packaging that your product will be delivered in, you can create a lasting impression and a better brand experience for your customers. According to a study by UPS, “40 percent of consumers would share a picture of an online order via social media if it came in a unique, branded or gift-like box. In addition, 52 percent of consumers are likely to make repeat purchases from an online retailer that delivers orders in premium packaging.” As you can see, creating custom packaging not only increases the position of your brand but can also lead to greater revenue.
Lastly, our latest article is titled “4 Trends Shaping the Future of Instagram Marketing.” I cannot emphasize enough the importance of number 3 – Short-form video content will be even more popular than ever before. That’s why it’s super important to make sure we are maximizing on this opportunity.
Also, some exciting news to share with you, the Sunan community. Over the past few weeks, I have been experimenting with a new tool that I’m really excited about and wanted to share with you! It’s called community.
It’s a great social messaging platform that allows you to directly communicate with us via text messages.

My biggest takeaway this week: The First Step is Always The Hardest
Wow! It’s been a crazy past 12 months here at Sunan. Over the past few weeks, I have been reflecting on what we were able to accomplish in 2020 and strategizing what it is that we want to accomplish in 2021.
Looking back at everything we were able to accomplish, one important lesson kept coming to mind. At that moment in time when beginning a new initiative, it seems soo difficult and daunting.
The thoughts that come racing to mind…
How in the world am I going to make this work? What if I fail? What are people going to say?
But looking back now, I’m realizing that taking the first step is always the hardest and the most important thing to do. Once you take that first step and get moving, the momentum and discipline to move the needle will carry you to the finish line.
It’s true! Look, in 2020, given all the chaos, we were able to successfully double the size of our firm, launch a brand new website, launch our digital marketing service, launch Sunan Podcast, and launch our weekly roundups. And in doing all these, we were able to successfully complete over 143K design requests, manage over $1.65M in ad spend for our clients and generate over $28.7M in revenue for our clients. The only reason we were able to make these strides was that we challenged ourselves to take that first step. The first step is always the hardest. But there is nothing more fulfilling than looking back and realizing that everything you want is on the other side of fear.
Now, just like you, we have some amazing things planned for 2021. And given where we are in this new journey, it’s only natural to feel a bit scared. But remember, the first step is always the hardest.
Always remember, winning the daily is going to get you to the finish line before you know it!
Time to level up!
